PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR

The City of McComb is seeking an individual to fill the full time position of   Director for the Department of Public Works. The Director will perform highly responsible administrative, professional and technical work in directing the activities of administration, streets and drainage, solid waste management, water and sewer utility operations, construction, cemetery operations, project management, engineering, and vehicle maintenance.

 

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited four (4) year college or university with major course work in civil engineering or related field, and eight (8) years’ experience with project management/administration, and/or background in engineering or experience in managing a Public Works Department including at least four (4) years’ experience in a responsible supervisory or managerial position; Or three (3) years’ experience may be substituted for each year of college or university work as outlined above. A total of twelve (12) years’ experience would substitute for the requirement of graduating from an accredited college or university.

POSITION:
 Equipment Operator                                  

DEPARTMENT: Public Works/ Utilities Division

HOURS: 40 Hours per Week                                   

GRADE/STEP: GS 05-01

PAY RATE: $11.35 Hourly

CLOSING DATE:  This position will be open until filled.

DUTIES: This is skilled work in the operation of heavy duty automotive maintenance and construction equipment. Work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation, backhoes, flushers, and similar equipment.  Operator is responsible for daily preventive maintenance of equipment operated.  Operation is normally a full-time or predominate task although other work may be performed.  Assignments are usually received in the form of specific orders to accomplish a specific task.  Work is normally inspected in progress and upon completion. 

PREFERRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  Completion of standard high school, vocational school or equivalency and one (1) year full-time work experience in related operations and some experience in supervision; OR Three (3) years successful experience as a Maintenance Technician. Must have experience operating a Backhoe.
